Pack 119 Summer Camping 2008

This page contains links to all the current information on Pack 119's summer camping in 2008. This includes Family FunFest Camp, the Urbana Day Camp, Adventure Camp, and Parent & Pal Camp. Cub Scouts who wish to earn the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award must attend either Day Camp or Adventure Camp. This award can be earned once in each rank.

General Camp Information

Here is the information sheet passed out at the March Pack meeting. It includes the dates, times, fees, and deadlines for all four camps. In addition, if you need financial aid in attending camp, the Council has a limited amount of camperships available. The campership application form is here.

Family Fun Fest

Here's the information and forms for Family FunFest Camp, June 6-8 at Camp Drake. Please note that a health form must be filled out for every person attending Family FunFest (even if you're not camping).

Urbana Day Camp

Here are the forms for Day Camp, to be held at the Champaign County Fairgrounds June 16-20. We will need a walker each day for every six boys who attend Day Camp, and this year the pack is requiring any boy attending Day Camp to provide a walker for one day (except for those serving on staff). If you send two boys to Day Camp, you still only need to walk one day. Walkers are not required to be parents (grandparent, uncle, older sibling over 18), and walkers can split days (e.g., dad walks in the morning and mom in the afternoon, or Sam's mom walks Monday and Tuesday morning and John's mom walks Monday and Tuesday afternoon). If you would like to serve on the Day Camp Staff all week, the Day Camp fee is waived. Note that the registration form and health form are one and the same this year for Day Camp, and adults who are walkers or staff need to fill out a form as well. The Pack Coordinator Guide contains additional information on what to bring each day and an overview of Day Camp policies.

Adventure (Webelos) Camp

Adventure Camp is directed primarily at Webelos Scouts, but there are program activities for Wolf and Bear Scouts as well. Remember that as of June 1, your current Tiger Scout becomes a Wolf (and Wolves become Bears and Bears become Webelos). Wolves and Bears must have a parent in camp with them at all times. Webelos Scouts are not required to have a parent with them, but it is often a good idea for them to be there at least at night. The pack pays the camp fee for all uniformed leaders and all Webelos parents. Wolf and Bear parents who are not uniformed leaders must pay the $50 fee (or become a den leader!).

Webelos Scouts are encouraged to attend Adventure Camp, especially fourth-grade Webelos and those fifth-grade Webelos who did not attend Adventure Camp last year. Webelos can earn several activity pins at Adventure Camp, including some required for the Webelos rank badge and the Arrow of Light. Overnight camping is also a requirement for the Arrow of Light. In addition to rank-required activity pins, there are several other activity pins available to Webelos Scouts, several academic and sports belt loops and pins for all Scouts, and some other opportunities as well (Whittling Chip, Leave No Trace Award, Onaquispassippi Trail Medal). Program areas such as archery, BB guns, swimming, and Poncho Pond will be available as well.

Everyone attending camp must fill out a health form. For Scouts and adults under 40, they need to have had a physical in the last three years. For adults 40 and older, the physical needs to be within the last year. Medical forms do not need to be completed until the day we leave for camp, so there is plenty of time to schedule a physical if you need to. I know that Carle and Christie will provide you with a copy of your (or your boy's) most recent physical for a small fee. This can be attached to the form to cover the physical part, but the heath history and emergency contact information must also be filled out.

Additional information on Adventure Camp can be found in the Cub Lantern. The pack has also compiled a list of what to bring, what not to bring, and policies as well.

Parent & Pal Camp

Parent & Pal Camp is designed just for a Cub Scout and his parent (i.e., no siblings). The program is relatively low-key with an emphasis on fun. Shooting sports, swimming, and Poncho Pond are all open for activities, and there is an evening campfire each night. If two Cub Scouts from the same family are attending, only one parent is required. A health form is required for each person (youth and adult) attending.
